Summary Punjab Safe Cities Authority introduces QR panic button systems at more than 4,500 Imambargahs to provide faster emergency response during Muharram.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has introduced QR panic button systems for the first time to enhance security arrangements at Imambargahs during Muharram.

More than 4,500 Imambargahs across Punjab will now be connected with a modern digital safety network designed to ensure rapid assistance, immediate communication and timely response during emergencies.

Recognised by United Nations, the initiative has been launched under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of a “Safe Punjab”, with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority introducing the QR panic button system as part of enhanced security measures for Muharram.

How it works

Once the QR panic button is scanned, three immediate response options will appear on the user’s mobile phone screen. These options include a 15 emergency call, live chat facility and video call service, enabling direct communication with the Punjab Safe Cities control room.

After selecting any of the available options, a direct connection will immediately be established with officials at the Safe Cities control room. The officers monitoring the system will assess the situation, evaluate the nature of the emergency and activate the relevant departments to ensure a timely police response.

The system has been designed to provide a faster and more efficient security mechanism by reducing communication delays during emergencies. Through real-time connectivity, officials will be able to receive alerts and coordinate assistance more effectively.

Smart security

The QR panic button is not limited to a simple QR code system but has been developed as an advanced safety solution combining modern technology, artificial intelligence and smart policing methods. The system reflects a shift towards technology-based security management, where digital tools are being integrated to improve public safety and emergency handling.

Punjab Safe Cities Authority Managing Director Ehsan Younas said that QR panic buttons had been installed on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He added that whenever the QR code is scanned, an immediate alert would be received by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, allowing officials to take necessary action.

The system forms part of wider efforts to strengthen security arrangements across Punjab by using digital solutions for faster reporting and response.

Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s latest measure follows the growing global trend of using technology for public protection and emergency assistance. Advanced security systems, artificial intelligence tools and digital response platforms are increasingly being adopted worldwide to improve safety and provide quicker support during critical situations.
